St. John Valley weather for Nov. 18-24, 2020

Short-Term Outlook: Wednesday – Friday

High pressure over the Ohio Valley this morning will drift into the Middle Atlantic tonight and into the Southeast US Thursday night. 

Clouds will diminish over Fort Kent over the course of the day with mostly clear skies tonight allowing radiational cooling to take place and plunging temperatures to around 0 degrees overnight. Clouds increase Thursday as a warm front ahead of a low-pressure system in central Canada lifts across the Valley producing some light snowfall for the SJV.

Mostly cloudy skies ahead of a cold front Thursday night and Friday produce a chance for snow showers Thursday night change to rain showers Friday morning as southwest flow along and ahead of the cold front raise temperatures into the 40s in Fort Kent and vicinity. 

Today & Tonight

Partly sunny in the morning then decreasing clouds in the afternoon with a 10 percent chance for precipitation. High in the low 20s with northwest winds 10 to 12 mph gusting to around 20 mph. Wind chills in the single digits above.

Overnight, mostly clear and cold with a low near 0 degrees F. Chance for precipitation 5 percent. Northwest winds 5 to 8 mph become west/southwest 2 to 4 mph after midnight.

Thursday, November 22
Mostly cloudy to overcast with a 60 percent chance for snow showers, especially in the afternoon. Precipitation totals between 1/100 and 1/10-inch. Snowfall accumulation around 1 inch. High in the middle 20s with south winds 5 to 9 mph.

Thursday night, mostly cloudy and cold with a 40 percent chance for snow showers. Low in the mid-20s with south winds 4 to 5 mph.

Friday, November 20
Mostly cloudy with a 30 percent chance for snow showers changing to rain showers in the morning. High in the mid-40s with southwest winds 6 to 8 mph.

Friday night, partly cloudy with a 20 percent chance for precipitation. Low in the mid-20s west winds 0 to 7 mph.

Medium-Range: Saturday – Tuesday

High pressure crossing the Valley brings partly cloudy skies Saturday into early Sunday. Clouds increase Sunday afternoon as another frontal system approaches from the west with snow showers Sunday night into Monday morning change to rain showers in the afternoon then to a rain/snow mix Monday night before tapering off early Tuesday as snow showers behind the front. Partly cloudy skies develop Monday night and Tuesday as a ridge of high pressure builds in from the west on breezy northwest winds.

Saturday, November 21

Partly cloudy with a high in the lower 30s. 10 percent chance for precipitation. Northwest winds 8 to 14 mph.

Saturday night, partly cloudy with a low in the middle 10s. Northwest winds 0 to 7 mph.

Sunday, November 22

Partly cloudy in the morning then becoming mostly cloudy in the afternoon. Chance for snow showers 20 percent. High in the lower 30s with south winds 0 to 7 mph.

Sunday night, mostly cloudy with a 50 percent chance for snow showers. Low in the mid-20s with south winds 0 to 7 mph.

Monday, November 23

Mostly cloudy with a 60 percent chance for snow showers in the morning changing to rain showers in the afternoon. High in the low 40s with southwest winds 8 to 14 mph.

Monday night, becoming partly cloudy with a 40 percent chance for rain/snow showers tapering off overnight. Low in the lower 20s with northwest winds 8 to 14 mph.

Tuesday, November 24

Partly cloudy with a 10 percent chance for morning snow showers. High in the low 30s with northwest winds 8 to 14 mph.

Tuesday night, mostly clear with a low in the middle 10s. Chance for precipitation 10 percent. Northwest winds 0 to 7 mph.
