Crosswinds to host Christmas tree lighting for residents and families

FORT KENT, Maine — Loved ones of Crosswinds residents are invited to a Christmas tree lighting at the care center on Nov. 20.

Family members, who are expected to wear masks, can gather outside the residential care center while administrator Cathy Roy lights up the outdoor tree. The Crosswinds residents will watch from the Sun Room windows inside.

Labbe Tree Farm of Frenchville donated the tree to Crosswinds.

Mr. and Mrs. Claus will visit to provide additional holiday cheer and guests will enjoy hot chocolate to the sounds of Christmas music.

“We want the residents to see happiness and joy and love because it’s been quite a year not being able to see their families,” Crosswinds activities aid Ruth Roy said.

Residents have had limited contact with family members through socially distant visits in the care center activities room due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“All is well inside and everybody misses their families but hopefully we can make it the best Christmas we possibly can,” Roy said.

The tree lighting will take place at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 20.
