Valley towns team up to honor fallen veterans

WALLAGRASS, Maine — Three St. John Valley towns have formed a committee with the aim of building a veterans’ memorial.

The committee, initiated by the Soldier Pond/Wallagrass Revitalization Committee, is comprised of residents from New Canada, Cross Lake and Wallagrass and plans to raise funds to build a tri-community memorial honoring fallen veterans from the three towns.

The project is in the initial stages and the group welcomes anyone, military or civilian, willing to help out with any phase of the effort.

The committee meets at the Wallagrass Community Center on the last Monday of each month at 2 p.m.

Those interested in helping out with furthering the project through planning or fundraising or anyone with information about fallen local veterans to be honored through the monument can call committee chair Melford Pelletier at 207-444-5577, Elaine Desjardins at 207-834-5189, Norman Fournier at 207-444-5116, or Lana Voisine at 207-834-2263.
