Ridgewood Estates has a hoedown

MADAWASKA, Maine — Residents at Ridgewood Estates got a special treat Sept. 16 when the residential facility hosted a good old-fashioned Cowboy Hoedown.

“With COVID-19 the staff at RW are doing our very best to try to keep this as normal as possible,” said Ridgewood’s activities coordinator Paula Gendreau.

With that in mind, the staff at Ridgewood decided to help welcome fall with the hoedown. Residents dressed in cowboy hats and sang along to old country songs.

Mainely Meat ‘n Potatoes showed up to make poutines and sell them discounted to the residents.

“The poutine was delicious,” said Alex Michaud, the 90s Club president at Ridgewood Estates.

Rita Dionne of Mainely Meat ‘n Potatoes said that this was the first time Ridgewood had asked them to do this.

“I think the residents were excited just to have something different,” Dionne said. “We were happy to be able to do it for them.”

Gendreau said it was a great afternoon, and Michaud shared a similar sentiment.

“The afternoon was great fun,” Michaud said. “Everyone forgot that there was a pandemic.”
