Fort Kent man arrested downstate after stolen vehicle runs out of gas

FORT KENT, Maine — A Fort Kent man was arrested downstate after allegedly stealing a pickup truck from Valley Motors in Fort Kent valued at $60,000.

Trooper Ryan Keller of Maine State Police Troop G came into contact with the 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe where it had run out of gas on the Maine Turnpike. The vehicle was taken from Valley Motors sometime during the evening of Sunday, Aug. 23, or early morning hours of Monday, Aug. 24.

Trooper Keller located the vehicle on Thursday, Aug. 27, and determined it had been operated by Ted Zarins, 28, who was still with the vehicle when the trooper arrived. Police arrested Zarins and charged him with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

Valley Motors recovered the pickup from a facility in Westbrook. The vehicle was not damaged, according to a Valley Motors representative.
