Fort Kent teen arrested for OUI

FORT KENT, Maine — A Fort Kent man was arrested Monday after several callers reported witnessing a vehicle speeding near the soccer field and playground at Fort Kent Elementary School.

The callers told Fort Kent Police they witnessed an early model Chevy Impala traveling through the elementary school parking lot at a high rate of speed shortly before 6:30 p.m.

Several of the witnesses identified the driver of the vehicle as being 18-year-old Steven Pierce, according to police.

Chief Tom Pelletier and and Sgt. Dalen Boucher investigated the incident. Shortly after the caller’s reports, the officers conducted a traffic stop of a 2009 Chevy Impala at the intersection of North Perley Brook Road and Market Street.

Pierce, who was driving the vehicle at the time, was charged with operating under the influence. The investigation is ongoing with further possible charges pending, police said.

Pierce posted bail and will appear Monday, Oct. 5, at Fort Kent District Court.
