Farmers market to open Friday in Fort Kent

FORT KENT, Maine — Vendors can register to sell their homegrown farm and food products at a new farmers market to open Friday in Fort Kent.

There is no fee for vendors who register for the farmers market, but they must comply with the Maine Law of Farmers Markets.
At least 75 percent of the products offered by a vendor must be grown or processed by that person or under that person’s direction. A product not grown or processed by the vendor must have been purchased directly from another farmer, according to the town of Fort Kent Farmers Market registration form.
“Farm and food products mean any agricultural, horticultural, forest or other product of the soil or water including, but not limited to fruits, vegetables, herbs, eggs, dairy products, fish and fish products, grain and grain products, honey, nuts, maple products, apple cider, fruit juice, wine, ornamental or vegetable plants, nursery products, firewood and Christmas trees,” per Maine legislation.
The Fort Kent Farmers Market will be open noon-6 p.m. Friday and 7 a.m.-noon Saturday near the Riverside Park basketball court next to the Lions Pavilion.
Vendors should register at the Fort Kent Town Office prior to the event.
