Caribou man charged with stealing from Fort Kent stores

FORT KENT, Maine — Police have charged a Caribou man allegedly recorded on video stealing items from two Main Street businesses in Fort Kent.

Sgt. Dalen Boucher of the Fort Kent Police Department reported the thefts took place at Tech N Trenz and S.W. Collins on Thursday, July 23.

Boucher identified which vehicle the alleged thief was driving and determined that Steven Berthiaume, 40, was borrowing the vehicle from the vehicle owner when the crimes took place.

Berthiaume was charged with theft for allegedly taking a flashlight from Tech N Trenz and a torch from S.W. Collins.

Both stores have video surveillance equipment.

With the assistance of the Maine State Police, Berthiaume was located in Frenchville on Saturday, July 25.

Boucher charged Berthiaume with two counts of theft by unauthorized taking. Berthiaume was also charged with operating a motor vehicle after license suspension.

He will appear Friday, Sept. 11, at Fort Kent District Court.
