Pocket park and amphitheater under construction

The pocket park on 11th Avenue and Main Street and the amphitheater on Main Street across from DOC’s were under construction and nearing completion the afternoon of July 21.

The pocket park and amphitheater are part of the downtown revitalization project.

The Board of Selectmen put the project on hold in January to address concerns regarding the mill rate which rose 3 mills in November and how the project was bonded — meaning that each grant dollar has to be matched by the town in order to receive the full grant amount.

In February, the selectmen held a workshop in which they decided to move forward since the grant monies were not allowed to just sit in the town’s account, according to Town Manager Gary Picard. Rather he suggested the project begin in the spring.

Fast forward to mid-July as construction companies from around the Valley rolled into town to begin work on the pocket parks and amphitheater.

The pocket park on 11th Avenue and Main Street as well as the amphitheater on Main Street are expected to be completed soon, according to Daniel Hebert of Hebert and Sons based out of Fort Kent.
