Webinar targets drug prevention for youth

CARIBOU, Maine — The Aroostook Recovery Center of Hope, along with recovery community organizations statewide, are partnering with AdCare Educational Institute of Maine in Portland on a webinar on preparing adolescents for questions about substance use.

Presented by Kim Parent, Family Influence: Prevention Begins When We Start Talking and Listening, will be presented on various dates through September.

The three-hour session will provide valuable information to help engage adolescents in conversation around substance use. The webinar is based on the Prime for Life curriculum and has been modified specifically for parents and caregivers to provide tools to use to help adolescents make choices in their best interest when faced with alcohol and other drug choices.

There will be a six  trainings across the state at various dates and times. Seating is limited. Registrants will be informed as to the specific date and time of their session following the registration process.

All parents/caregivers, including parents, aunts, uncles, grandparents, mentors and more, are encouraged to sign up.

Participants who successfully complete the workshop will receive research-based, easy-to-remember guidelines, and will learn to recognize the difference between health risk and impairment risk associated with alcohol and other drug choices, be presented with models proposing how these two types of risks develop, discuss who is at risk for alcohol and drug problems and how to assess their own personal risk.
