The Jake ‘Break’ Snack Bar opens in Allagash

FORT KENT, Maine — A new outdoor dining establishment opened in Allagash on Thursday offering food items from lobster rolls to ice cream to a dozen flavors of popcorn.

Jake “Break” Snack Bar owners Ben and Edie Pelletier of Allagash purchased and renovated a small wooden building that formerly housed an ice cream shop in the town.

“When we found out that they were selling the ice cream place we wanted to keep it within our community so that we would have something up here in Allagash,” Edie Pelletier said. “It’s always been a dream of mine to open up a little shop, and last year after speaking with the previous owners, we decided that this was an opportunity for us to snag.”

Edie Pelletier, who continues to sell Scentsy products, is currently doing all of the food preparation and cooking at The Jake Break.

“Our menu is based on grab and go and convenience and we wanted to offer coffee to our morning commuters including our truckers and keep the ice cream offering for our community,” she said.

The snack bar offers 14 flavors of Giffords hard ice cream including Camp Coffee, Peanut Butter Pie, Sea Salt Caramel Truffle and Wild Maine Blueberry.

Hot dogs, homemade chili, and grab and go sandwiches are also on the menu, along with an assortment of candy, chips and other snacks.

Popcorn flavors for sale at the business range from buffalo to apple cinnamon to bacon cheddar.

The Jake Break also sells smoothies, Italian sodas and Red Bull infusions.
