Elder Abuse Awareness Day recognized in Madawaska

MADAWASKA, Maine — June 15 marked Elder Abuse Awareness Day, and Madawaska was not left out of the awareness celebrations.

A motorcade of cars, including police cruisers, drove from the multi-purpose building in Madawaska to La Maison Acadienne, an independent living complex, to show support to the elderly residents.

The day of awareness is recognized throughout the world since the United Nations Assembly in December 2011. Prior to that, the day was established by the International Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse, according to the United Nations website.
