Crosswinds honors fallen veterans with flag raising and parade
FORT KENT, Maine — Although Crosswinds Residential Care in Fort Kent is in shutdown to keep residents safe from COVID-19, a flag raising ceremony and parade still took place at the center in honor of Memorial Day.
Residents watched from their windows as members of the Fort Kent American Legion raised the United States flag at Crosswinds on Friday, May 22.
After the flag raising event, the Legionnaires as well as law enforcement personnel and firefighters and even Smokey Bear paraded around the outside of the Crosswinds building to the delight of the residents.
Among those who attended the event were members of the Fort Kent Police Department. Chief Tom Pelletier helped organize the parade.
“I was asked by Patti Voisine to contact a few people in order to support the flag raising event that was being conducted at Crosswinds in honor of our deceased veterans,” Chief Pelletier said. “It was a great tribute to our fallen veterans.”
