Pineland Farms giving out 4,500 more boxes of food in County

MARS HILL, Maine — The Mars Hill-based Pineland Farms Potato Company will continue its “Drive Thru Box of Food Giveaway” this week by giving out 4,500 more boxes of food in the Presque Isle and St. John Valley areas May 6-8, Pineland plant manager said.

The company will hand out food at Big Rock Mountain in Mars Hill on Wednesday, May 6, the St. Agatha Catholic Church on Thursday, May 7, and the Aroostook Centre Mall in Presque Isle on Friday, May 8, Pineland Farms plant manager Shawn Lovley said on Thursday.

Pineland Farms said the boxes would be available on a first-come first-served basis from 10 a.m to 2 p.m.

It is the second time in two months that the company has handed out food to County residents, many of whom are struggling from unemployment and furloughing because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Last month, it gave out 5,000 boxes at locations across The County.

While some products will make their return, this month’s giveaway differs from last month’s: each box will contain two cheddar bars, two cartons of liquid eggs, a dozen hard-boiled eggs, two pounds of scrambled egg mix, 5 ½ pounds of scrambled eggs and one box of mashed potatoes.

The addition of cheese to the packages was thanks to donations from Pineland Farms Dairy Company, said Lovley.

“We love being in Aroostook county and giving back to the communities that we operate in,” Lovley said.
