50 Years Ago — March 5, 1970
Fireman Re-elect Albert As Assistant — Gerard D. Albert was re-elected assistant fire chief in Madawaska, when the local fire department held its annual election a week ago Monday at the fire station.
Others voted into office were Captain Reginald Deschaines, Lt. Fernand Marquis, secretary-treasurer, Louis E. Daigle. A nominating committee was picked that was made up of chairman, Roland T. Pelletier and members, Zenon Charette, Normand Lavigne and Clarence J. Albert.
Postmaster Explains System — Raoul Cyr, Madawaska’s postmaster, explained the nation’s mail system to Mrs. Hartt’s third-grade class from Evangeline School. The children took a field trip to the post office following a unit of study on letter-writing. Postmaster Cyr gave the students a tour of the building, explaining each operation as they went along.
25 Years Ago — March 8, 1995
Coming To A Brook Near You — The fourth-grade science classes at Acadia School in Madawaska have just received 400 Atlantic landlocked salmon eggs. The students and their teacher, Gina Jandreau, will be caring for the eggs. They are currently in an incubation tank. The fry will be released into the northern Maine brooks this June.
Little Miss Madawaska — Danielle Vicky Cyr is the 1995 Little Miss Madawaska. She was crowned Sunday evening after a two-hour pageant. Six other contestants competed for the title. They were Deidre Ann DuBois, Melissa Dubois, Mallory Lavoie, Andrea McQuarrie, Heather Ouellette and Monica Sirois.
10 Years Ago — March 10, 2010
Mr. Wisdom — Nine gentlemen competed for “Mr. Wisdom” at Wisdom High School. The theme was “Cartoon and TV Themes.” Contestants were Devin Michaud, Kyle Labrie, Jacob Bernier, Nick Bourgoin, Justin Picard, Andrew Mendonca, Justin Taggett, Justin Albert and Ryan Blanchette.
