Landlord accidentally strikes tenant with plow truck while clearing parking lot

FORT KENT, Maine — A Fort Kent landlord accidentally struck his tenant with a plow truck while clearing snow from a winter storm.

The Fort Kent Police Department received a call at around 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 7, requesting an officer and ambulance at a property located on the corner of Church and East Main streets.

The owner of the property, Lee Theriault, 47, was removing snow from the parking lot of an apartment building — which also houses several businesses — when he struck Chelsy Theriault, 28.

Chelsy Theriault, who resides in an upstairs apartment in the building, moved her 2010 Jeep SUV from the parking lot to the roadway so that Lee Theriault could plow the area of the parking lot where her vehicle had been parked.

Chelsy Theriault moved her SUV from the parking lot to the edge of the road and then exited her vehicle. Lee Theriault did not see Chelsy Theriault exit her vehicle and accidentally backed into her with his pickup, Fort Kent Police Chief Tom Pelletier said.

Police did not know if the two Theriaults were related.

Ambulance Service Inc. transported Chelsy Theriault to Northern Maine Medical Center for treatment of injuries that were not life-threatening.
