Ouellette of Van Buren earns Maine Principal’s Award

VAN BUREN, Maine — Erica Ouellette, a senior at Van Buren District Secondary School, has received the 2020 Principal’s Award.

The Principal’s Award is awarded in more than 100 schools in Maine, both public and private. Principal Karen DuBois announced Friday that Ouellette received the Maine Principals’ Association sponsored award in recognition of her academic achievements and citizenship.

“Throughout her high school career at Van Buren District Secondary School, Erica has been a role model for her peers and the underclassmen,” DuBois said. “Demonstrating leadership, Erica has been a class officer during her high school career and has held office as a National Honor Society Member.”

Ouellette also represents the school as a member of the District Curriculum Committee, and participates in sports and dance, “excels” in academics and works part-time at the local nursing home, Borderview, according to DuBois.

The principals and their award-winning students will attend an honors luncheon Saturday, April 4, when they will be recognized with the presentation of an MPA pin, a plaque, and the awarding of seven $1,000 scholarships from the MPA Executive Directors and Maine principals, as well as three $1,000 scholarships from Berlin City Auto Group’s Drive for Education.
