The night began with the girls varsity teams matching up. With the help of a 29-point effort from sophomore Chantel Ackley, Madawaska arose victorious against Van Buren. Mallory Corriveau and Annabelle Hodgkin also contributed to the winning score. Ackley led the team to victory with a total of seven 3-pointers.

Van Buren’s own Brooke Caron was responsible for more than half of the team’s points Thursday night with a total of nine points scored. Kylie Laplant and Abby Ayotte helped raise the team up to 16 points, but it just wasn’t enough to take home the win.

Van Buren varsity boys coach Steve Lapierre said the boys game was exciting from start to finish as the teams went neck and neck.

With a total of 19 3-pointers in the game, Robie Lausier from Madawaska had nine of those alone leading Madawaska with 37 points, while Luc Perreault of Van Buren led the team with 23 points.

Isaiah Morales had 13 points and “handled the ball for Van Buren and created and assisted on many scoring opportunities for Van Buren,” Lapierre said. “As a team we are looking to get better on defense and keeping the turnovers down.”
