Marine visits Madawaska class

MADAWASKA, Maine — Marine Private Ryan Levesque, son of Hervin and Deb Levesque of Madawaska, spoke to the seventh- and eighth-grade class at Madawaska Middle High School on Friday, Nov. 1.

Levesque talked with students about his decision to enter the military, the process to enlist, his experience in boot camp, and how he plans to continue his military career.

During his time in boot camp, Mrs. Vanier’s English class wrote letters of encouragement to him, something that he said offered a few minutes of light-hearted entertainment during his stay at Parris Island, South Carolina.

Levesque honored Ellie Cyr, daughter of Wayne Cyr of Madawaska and Sylvie Cyr of Edmundston, New Brunswick, with a token of his appreciation for a letter well written. He gave her his boot band from his training through the “Battle of Fallujah,” where he was a squad leader. Levesque said that battle was the toughest part of his training, but also something he was most proud of.

Cyr now proudly wears Levesque’s boot band.
