Parking ordinance to take effect Nov. 15

MADAWASKA, Maine — The Madawaska Police Department is urging people to take notice of the parking ordinance from Nov. 15 until April 15.

Beginning Nov. 15 people are not allowed to park on the street from 1 to 6 a.m..

Madawaska Police Lt. Jamie Pelletier said the reason for the ordinance is for snow removal purposes even on nights where there might not be any snowstorm.

“It’s a matter of getting people used to it so that way, in the event of an unexpected snowfall, we don’t have to worry about cleaning cars off the streets,” Pelletier said. “We try to be courteous about it. It’s less about towing cars and more about keeping the streets clear for the public works crew.”

Violators could face anywhere from a $20 ticket to a tow charge of upward of $100.
