Twenty-five County squads qualify for soccer postseason

Aroostook County will be well represented in the upcoming soccer playoffs as 25 teams from the area have qualified for the postseason this year.

In girls soccer, Presque Isle, Caribou, Fort Kent, Houlton, Ashland, Central Aroostook, Southern Aroostook, Katahdin, Fort Fairfield, Hodgdon, Madawaska and Wisdom are all playoff bound.

For the boys, Caribou, Presque Isle, Fort Kent, Houlton, Central Aroostook, Maine School of Science and Mathematics, Hodgdon, Easton, Van Buren, Madawaska, Ashland, Fort Fairfield, Southern Aroostook and Wisdom will be in postseason this year.

The preliminary round takes place Friday and Saturday for teams, weather permitting. The following is a recap of dates and times teams will be playing:

Girls soccer

No. 10 Caribou (2-9-3) will play at No. 7 Maine Central Institute (7-5-2) at 3 p.m. in Pittsfield Friday, Oct. 25, in a Class B North prelim. The two teams did not meet during the regular season.

No. 4 Presque Isle (9-4-1) receives a first-round bye in Class B North and will host No. 5 John Bapst (9-4-1) 5 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29, at the Johnson Sports Complex. The two teams did not meet during the regular season.

No. 1 Fort Kent (11-1-2) earns a first-round bye in Class C North and faces the winner of No. 8 Dexter (8-6) vs. No. 9 Washington Academy (6-7-1). The Warriors are tentatively scheduled to host the quarterfinal 3 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29.

No. 3 Houlton (12-2) also gets a bye and will play No. 6 Calais (10-4) on Tuesday, Oct. 29, in a Class C North quarterfinal. The time for that game has not been determined. Houlton facedĀ  Calais twice during the regular season, with the Shires victorious 9-1 and 5-2.

No. 7 Fort Fairfield (11-3) hosts No. 10 Wisdom (8-6) in a Class D North prelim 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25. The Tigers beat Wisdom twice during the regular season (4-1 and 5-2). The winner of this game travels to No. 2 Ashland (12-2) Tuesday, Oct. 29, in a quarterfinal.

No. 6 Katahdin (10-3-1) hosts No. 11 Shead (10-4) in a Class D North prelim 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25. The two teams did not meet during the regular season. The winner of this game travels to Mars Hill to face No. 3 Central Aroostook (11-3) Tuesday, Oct. 29, in the quarterfinals. The time for that game has yet to be decided.

No. 5 Southern Aroostook (9-5) hosts No. 12 Deer Isle-Stonington (4-8-2), 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25, in a Class D North prelim. The two squads did not meet during the regular season.

No. 8 Hodgdon (9-5) hosts No. 9 Madawaska (5-9) in a Class D North prelim, 2:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25. The two teams did not meet during the regular season.

Boys soccer

No. 1 Caribou (12-0-2) is scheduled to host the Class B North prelim winner of No. 8 MCI (5-9) versus No. 9 Lawrence (5-8-1) on Wednesday, Oct. 30. The time for that game has not been established. The Vikings did not play either squad during the regular season.

No. 4 Presque Isle (9-4-1) hosts No. 5 John Bapst (9-4-1) 5 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 30, in a Class B North quarterfinal. The Wildcats beat John Bapst 3-0 in their only meeting on the year.

No. 8 Houlton (6-5-3) hosts No. 9 Narraguagus (8-4) in a Class C North prelim 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25. The Shires did not face Narraguagus during the regular season. The winner of this game has the steep task of playing No. 1 Sumner (13-0-1) in the quarterfinals Wednesday, Oct. 30.

No. 7 Fort Kent (7-6-1) will host No. 10 Calais (5-8-1) in a Class C North prelim at noon, Saturday, Oct. 26. The Warriors did not face Calais during the regular season. The winner plays at No. 2 Orono (9-1-4) on Wednesday, Oct. 30.

No. 3 MSSM (5-3) hosts No. 14 Wisdom (3-11) 5 p.m., Friday, Oct. 25 in a Class D North prelim. MSSM beat Wisdom 5-1 and 4-1 in their two regular season meetings.

No. 4 Hodgdon (12-1-1) hosts No. 13 Woodland (6-6-2) at noon Friday, Oct. 25, in a Class D North prelim. The Hawks beat Woodland 6-1 and 3-1 in their two regular season meetings.

No. 5 Easton (9-3-2) hosts No. 12 Southern Aroostook (6-7-1) in a Class D north prelim on Friday, Oct. 25. The time of that game could not be confirmed. Easton beat SA twice during the season 2-0 and 2-1.

No. 6 Van Buren (6-6-2) hosts No. 11 Bangor Christian (8-6) in a Class D North prelim on Friday, Oct. 25. The time of that game could not be confirmed. The two teams did not face one another during the regular season.

No. 10 Fort Fairfield (4-8-2) travels to No.7 Madawaska (5-5-4) for a Class D North prelim game 6 p.m., Friday, Oct. 25. Madawaska beat the Tigers 1-0 in the first game of the season and the two teams tied 0-0 in their second contest. The winner travels to No. 2 Central Aroostook (11-0-3) for a Wednesday, Oct. 30, quarterfinal.

No. 9 Ashland (9-5) travels to No. 8 Jonesport Beals (10-3-1) 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25 for a Class D North prelim. The two teams did not meet during the regular season. The winner must travel to No. 1 Penobscot Valley of Howland (14-0) on Wednesday, Oct. 30 for the quarterfinals.
