Van Buren Fire Department calendar fundraiser

VAN BUREN, Maine — The Van Buren Fire Department is selling calendars to raise money for equipment and new uniforms.

Every day during January, someone from the Van Buren Fire Fighters Association will draw a name and that person will win a cash prize as designated on the calendar. Some prizes go as high as $100. Each calendar costs $10 and the money will benefit the fire department.

Last year, the department raised enough to help cover the hydraulic rescue tool. This year, the money raised will help cover more equipment for the ATV the department got in July. The ATV was purchased with funds from a grant that Van Buren’s Pete Madore, a firefighter for the department, wrote and sent in to the Maine Outdoor Heritage Fund.

“The equipment will be some sort of ATV rescue body that fits into the back of our newly purchased ATV,” said Fire Chief Brian Caron. “The body will hold a patient and have a paramedic seat with storage.”

The department also plans to complete their dress uniforms as well.

“We will purchase a few dress uniform jackets that we couldn’t afford last year when we bought the new shirts and pants for some firefighters, so this year, we want to complete those uniforms,” he said.
