Sanclemente, Cyr tops again at cross country race

MADAWASKA, Maine — Miguel Sanclemente of Fort Kent (18:51.7) and Matthew Cyr of Madawaska (18:52.7) took the top spots out of 34 fellow athletes at their second cross country meet of the season at the Four Seasons Trails in Madawaska on Thursday, Sept. 5.

The boys also finished in first and second place respectively last week at a meet at Lonesome Pine Trails in Fort Kent.

Jacob Pelletier of Madawaska raced to sixth place (19:34.0) at Four Seasons, improving from the Fort Kent meet, where he finished in ninth place. 

Fort Kent runners Emma Landry (23:54.9) and Ellie Smith (24:57.2) also had a strong showing at the Madawaska meet, finishing in third and eighth place, respectively, out of 20 competitors. 

Landry and Smith each moved up a position on the leaderboard from the Fort Kent meet. 

Team results for the boys at the Four Seasons meet were: Washburn, 28; Madawaska, 45; Fort Kent, 62; and Houlton and Fort Fairfield, no score.

On the girls’ side, the final team results were:  Houlton/GHCA, 23 points; Fort Kent, 39; Washburn, 58; and Fort Fairfield, no score.
