Warrior girls defeat Van Buren in soccer home opener
FORT KENT, Maine — The Fort Kent Community High School girls varsity soccer team played like the defending Class C state champions they are during the Warriors’ home opener against Van Buren on Thursday, Aug. 22, in Fort Kent.
The Warriors defeated the Crusaders 15-0, with eight girls scoring for Fort Kent.
Lacy Pelletier led the way for the Warriors with five goals. Riley Sibley followed with three goals, and Payten Voisine scored two goals.
Kailee Guimond, Morgan Cyr, Desirae Hafford, Sydney Philbrook, and Nancy Martin scored one goal apiece.
Pelletier also led with four assists. Philbrook had three assists. Mallory Sirois had two assists and Guimond, Cyr, Voisine, Nancy Martin and Gabby Martin each had one.
Head coach Doug Cyr said he was proud of how the Warrior girls handled their home opener.
“They played well today; I’m hopeful for the season. We’ve got a good returning team and a good freshman class,” Cyr said. “We’ve got to stay humble, stay confident and play our game.”
Van Buren goalie Bailey Laplante had her work cut out for her with the Warriors’ unyielding offense. Laplante managed six saves on 49 shots.
Fort Kent goalie Lyndsay Ouellette had one save on one shot.
The Fort Kent girls will hit the road for their second game of the season to take on Central Aroostook on Friday, Aug. 30.
