MADAWASKA, Maine — The Jan. 29 Nordic races for high school skiers at Four Seasons Trails featured an interesting twist.

All skiers first participated in qualifying heats on the 1.5-kilometer course, made up of six waves and six skiers in each wave. The 12 fastest male and female skiers made it into the semifinal round, and then the top six from the semifinals advanced to the finals.

Sam Bosse of Madawaska was the boys’ winner, followed by Harrison Walters of MSSM and Miguel Sanclemente of Fort Kent. Rounding out the top six were Justin Pelletier of Madawaska and Dakota Yakel and Tommy Pinette, both of Caribou.

For the girls, Isabella Jandreau of Madawaska placed first. Dolcie Tanguay of MSSM was the runner-up and Willow Hall of Ashland came in third. Emma Pelletier of Madawaska took fourth, with Kassandra Nelson of Ashland fifth and Jessica Halsey of Fort Fairfield in sixth.

Weather caused postponements throughout the rest of the week, but Caribou hosted a make-up Nordic race Saturday.
