Easton soccer teams to open at home Friday

Three girls and three boys soccer games, all involving Class D schools, are scheduled for Friday in the region.

The Madawaska and Easton teams will play their first matches of the season. Both the girls and boys will play at 4 p.m. at Easton.

The Owl girls went 11-3 during the regular season a year ago and reached the Class D North semifinals, while at 3-9-2, the Bears did not quality for the postseason. Easton has a new coach in Katie Zarrilli, who takes over for Audra Fitzherbert.

The Madawaska boys went 7-7 last year and lost in the prelim round to MSSM, while the Bears had a 7-6-1 record and also lost in the prelims, to Hodgdon.

The Washburn girls and boys each have played two contests and are still looking for their first victories. The Beavers entertain Wisdom, with a 4 p.m. start for both matches. It’s the first games of the season for the Pioneers.

The Wisdom girls went 7-7 last season and lost to Washburn in the preliminary round, while the boys held a 3-11 record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

A doubleheader is planned at Fort Fairfield as Central Aroostook makes the trip from Mars Hill. The girls game is set for 5 p.m., followed by the boys game to be played under the lights at 7 p.m. Both the Tiger and Panthers squads are coming off successful debuts against Washburn. The CA teams swept the Beavers on Aug. 10, while the FF squads won both matches played on Aug. 14.
