50 Years Ago — June 13, 1968

Father St. Amand Marks 25 Years — Rev. Irenee St. Amand, was the speaker at a banquet held recently honoring him on his 25th anniversary as a priest. The banquet was held in the St. Leonard Parish Hall, and about 250 attended. He served as curate in the parishes of St. Anne, Claire and Drummond, and as parish priest in St. Joseph.

Spud Speedway Opens — Al Robinson, top driver at Unity for years in modified and stock class cars will be one of the featured drivers at Spud Speedway Sunday, June 16 who will go against such drivers as the St. John Valley’s own Ernie “The Flying Frenchman” Levesque in addition to several other Valley crowd pleasers.

25 Years Ago — June 9, 1993

Family Of The Year –– Leo James Cyr recently received the Madawaska Knights of Columbus Family of the Year award. The Cyr family, Angie, Ashley, Jim, Lori and Tim were honored for all the volunteer work and projects undertaken on behalf of the Knights and the community during the past year. The family of the year is elected by the officers of the council.

  Cushman Breaks Fish River Canoe Race Record — Twenty six canoeists who fought the fierce rapids in the eighteenth annual Fish River Run Canoe Race Held on Saturday. The race originated at Camp Walden in Plaisted and winded down 12 miles of the Fish River to the finish line at the Fort Kent Blockhouse. Tim Cushman from Caribou broke the course record for canoes with a time of 1:35:59, and all race times were faster than in previous years, explained Director of Fort Kent Recreation and Parks Department Denise Albert.

10 Years Ago — June 11, 2008

Wisdom Acknowledges Perfect Attendance — Imagine getting up every day and reporting to school no matter what you felt like? Nine students from WHS made sure they maintained an impeccable record of perfect attendance. They were awarded with a luncheon at the Lakeview, a certificate, and a pin. These students were Kurtis Gagnon, Ryan Blanchette, Sarah Albert, Kassie Theriault, Amanda Lagasse, Austin Dow-Smith, Robbie Chamberland, Chantel Lapointe, and Breana Lapointe.
