Fort Kent Outdoor Center offers summer Nordic training course

FORT KENT, Maine — The Fort Kent Outdoor Center will offer a Nordic training program from Monday, July 16, to Wednesday, Aug. 15, to include roller skiing, strength training and optionally a biathlon shooting component.  

The program targets skiers entering grades 6-12 who want to improve their skiing skills and conditioning, prepare for the next competitive ski season, and enter some local summer and winter biathlon events.

Grades 9-12 will meet Mondays, and all grades will meet Wednesdays, at the FKOC stadium and roller ski trails. Classes will be 6-7 p.m. for ski and strength and 7-7:45 p.m. for biathlon.

The FKOC will provide roller skis, boots, poles and biathlon rifles for those shooting. Athletes need to bring bike helmets, running shoes and athletic clothes appropriate for the weather.

The Outdoor Sports Institute will offer a Nordic ski conditioning camp from July 30 to Aug. 3, at FKOC; for more information visit

FKOC invites those interested to participate in a roller skiing event in Jericho, Vt., Aug. 11-12, and another training program is slated in the fall.

The cost for the program is $30. The cost of the Jericho, Vt., trip is extra.
