Daisies offer lemonade to help hungry pets

FORT KENT, Maine — The Daisies in Girl Scout Troop 83 will host a lemonade and homemade cookie stand in Fort Kent on Friday to collect food for hungry local pets.

The girls will exchange lemonade and cookies for cans or bags of dog food and cat food instead of money.

The first-grade girls have been taking part in an activity called “Three Cheers for Animals,” during which they visited PAWS Animal Welfare Society Inc. and the Fort Kent Animal Hospital to learn about animal care.

Part of the learning activity requires the Daisies to develop a community project to help local animals.

“When visiting the vet they were reminded that not having good food can cause problems for animals,” said Troop 83 assistant leader Bettina Grange. “They decided that they’d like to have a pet food drive and donate any pet food to the Greater Fort Kent Ecumenical Food Pantry.”

The Daisy Scouts will host the lemonade and homemade cookie stand at 157 Market St (across from Norstate Federal Credit Union), on Friday, May 25, from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
