Bernice (Sturgeon) Theriault

SCARBOROUGH, Maine — Bernice Theriault (Sturgeon) passed away peacefully on Monday, April 9, 2018, at her home, where she wanted to be, surrounded by her family. She had struggled with various illnesses for many years and, most recently, in January of 2018, was diagnosed with lung cancer.

Bernice was born and raised in St. John, Maine, and was the daughter of Herbie and Helen Sturgeon. She later moved to Caribou where she met and married her loving husband of 37 years, Patrick L. Theriault, who predeceased her on September 26, 1998. They relocated to Portland, Maine, and eventually settled in Scarborough where they raised their four children, and she resided for the last 50 years.

She was predeceased by both parents, five brothers, Bee, Leo, Maynard, Dave, and Alphonse Gagne, and three sisters, Annie and Claire Gagne and Joanne Carnahan, and is survived by her four children, Helen Desjardin of Yarmouth, Patrick Theriault and his wife, Mary Ellen, of Wells, Tammy Brown and her husband, Terry, of Scarborough, and David Theriault; two brothers, Douglas Gagne of South Portland, and Donald Sturgeon of Scarborough; seven grandchildren, Olivia, Audrey, Samantha, Tanner, Taylor, Leah, and Cruz, as well as many nieces and nephews.

She will be lovingly remembered by her children and grandchildren as a hard working woman with purpose, strength, and a determination to live; all qualities that they admired her for.
