Owls, Warriors prepare for postseason hoops action

ST. JOHN VALLEY, Maine — All four Class C North teams from the St. John Valley advanced to this year’s high school basketball tournament.

The Warrior boys and girls teams of Fort Kent Community High School each will host a preliminary game as high school basketball moves to the postseason.

The Fort Kent girls (12-6) are ranked 7th in the Maine Principal Association Heal Points standings and will host 10th ranked Fort Fairfield (12-6) at 6 p.m. on Feb. 13.

The winner of that game takes on 2nd ranked Dexter (15-3) on Feb. 16 in Bangor.

The Fort Kent boys (14-4) are ranked 5th and will host 12th ranked Dexter High School (11-7) at 5 p.m. on Feb. 14.

The winner of that game takes on two winner of the Madawaska versus Central Aroostook game, setting up a potential St. John Valley quarter-final match up in Bangor.

Admission for both the preliminary games in Fort Kent will be $2 for students and seniors and $4 for adults.

Fifth ranked Central Aroostook (13-5) hosts 13th ranked Madawaska (11-7) in their preliminary game beginning at 6 p.m. on Feb. 14.

The Madawaska girls (12-6) are ranked 9th and will travel to Piscataquis Community High School on Feb. 13 to take on the 8th ranked Pirates in a prelim game. Tip-off for that game is scheduled for 5 p.m.

The winner of that matchup takes on top ranked and undefeated Houlton on Feb. 16 for a quarterfinal game in Bangor.

In Class D North, the Wisdom boys (5-13) finished the regular season 12th and Van Buren (4-14) girls finished ranked 11th, each just missing the postseason cutoff. The Wisdom girls (0-18) and Van Buren boys (3-15) also did not qualify.
