Van Buren squads split home games against Washburn
VAN BUREN, Maine — Luc Perreault scored a game-high 15 points on Tuesday to guide the Van Buren boys’ basketball team to its second victory in nine games, with a 52-21 win against visiting Washburn.
The Crusaders’ other win this season also was against Washburn when they defeated the Beavers 52-46.
Blake Martin contributed 13 points and Brandon Sytulek scored 12 to help propel the Crusaders to the win.
Carver Pendexter’s eight points and Aiden Churchill’s seven led Washburn (0-7).
The Van Buren girls fell short Tuesday against visiting Washburn, losing 37-28 and dropping to 2-6 on the season.
Washburn outscored the Crusader girls 24-11 in the second half to erase a four-point halftime deficit.
Leah Gendreau’s 14 points, Tiffany Morrow’s nine and Brooke Caron’s 10 rebounds paced Van Buren.
Kassie Farley had 16 points and seven rebounds for Washburn. Alexis Carney scored 10 points and Trinity Saucier-Pellicer grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds for the Beavers, who improved to 3-5 with the win.
The Van Buren teams next host Ashland on Thursday, then travel to East Grand on Friday.
