Bengals fall to Conquistadors at USCAA volleyball national tourney

FORT KENT, Maine — The University of Maine at Fort Kent women’s volleyball team fell, 3-0, to Florida National University on Saturday afternoon in the third place match of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association tournament in Virginia Beach.

Earlier in the day, the Bengals lost to the St. Mary-of-the-Woods College Pomeroys, 3-0, in the semifinals of the USCAA tourney.

On Friday, UMFK bested Johnson and Wales Charlotte in a thriller. The teams split the first two sets and the Bengals found themselves trailing 12-8 in the final set. However, UMFK won the next seven points and took the fifth set and match, 15-12.

This year’s fourth place finish at the USCAA tournament, although disappointing, is an improvement over last year, when UMFK had lost all its matches at the tournament. The Bengals also advanced to the USCAA final four this year, for the first time in school history

The Bengals end their season with a school record 32 match wins.
