The University of Maine at Fort Kent Bengals soccer teams eye more national titles in Virginia Beach

FORT KENT, Maine — The University of Maine at Fort Kent mens’ and womens’ soccer teams are playing this week and weekend in the United State Collegiate Athletic Association’s National Championship tournaments in Virginia Beach.

The UMFK women started off with a bang on Thursday, defeating New Hampshire Technical Institute, 5-0, in Pool A play. They next take on the University of Cincinnati Clermont on Friday.

The lady Bengals are seeking to win their seventh women’s’ national USCAA title.

The UMFK men are looking to secure their 3rd straight USCAA National Championship and were set to take on Illinois Tech at 2 p.m. Thursday, in Pool C action, also in Virginia Beach.

On Friday, UMFK is set to play Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences.

The USCAA finals for the women will be played at 12 p.m., Monday. The men’s final is set for 2:45 p.m., also on Monday.

Each team also took the top spot at the 2017 Northeastern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships held last week in Boston.

The women defeated Fisher College, 3-2 in overtime in the Nov. 5 finals of that tourney. The men took down SUNY Delhi, 8-0, also in Boston, on the same day.
