Firefighters douse garage fire in St. Agatha
ST. AGATHA, Maine — Volunteer firefighters with the St. Agatha Fire Department headed out at suppertime on Monday to knock down a garage fire at 126 Bouchard Road.
The owner of the residence called 911 to report the fire at 5:10 p.m. and eleven firefighters responded to the call with two pumpers, a tanker and a rescue truck. The homeowner was able to eliminate most of the flames with a fire extinguisher before the firefighters arrived on the scene.
“When we got there we knocked the rest of it down with water,” Chief Bob Guerrette said.
The damage was contained to the attic of the garage and the homeowner was able to remain at the residence.
“There was no smoke damage to the home at all,” Guerrette said.
The firefighters cleared the scene after about an hour.
Guerrette said he is unsure at this point what caused the fire, but he plans to return to the residence tomorrow to examine the garage attic and try to determine the cause of the fire.
Nobody was injured as a result of the fire.
