FORT KENT – The University of Maine at Fort Kent has announced that Travis Delisle will be the next head coach for the UMFK Women's Basketball team.
Delisle takes over the position from Bradley Holabird who went 39-31 in three seasons, including back-to-back trips to the USCAA National Tournament his last two years. Holabird will remain at UMFK as the Head Athletic Trainer.
ST. JOHN VALLEY – With barely six weeks before the big weekend of the Acadian Heritage Air Show on Aug. 9 and 10, organizers have launched online ticket sales to make it easier for people to prepare for the aerial spectacle.
Organizers visited a few of the brick-and-mortar locations on Wednesday, where people can purchase tickets in person. Show organizer Dave Fernald Sr. said, “The purpose of today is to officially launch the online tickets for the Acadian Heritage Air Show.”
FORT KENT– Northern Maine Medical Center held its second annual Rally in the Valley on Saturday, June 21. NMMC partnered with the 10th Mountain Outdoor Club once again to provide an opportunity for youth of all ages to experience several biking events.
FRENCHVILLE - This year marks the fifth year that the Northern Aroostook Regional Airport will host the regional two-day air show in Frenchville on August 9 and 10.
There are several changes and additions to this year’s exciting lineup, said Air Show Director, David Fernald Jr., with a new name to highlight the beginning of the 2014 World Acadian Congress events and a new online website for preorder ticket sales.
ST. JOHN VALLEY - On Sunday, Aug. 10, the 24th annual Tour de la Vallee will take place for walkers and bikers. The event is a major fundraiser for the Edgar J. Paradis Cancer Fund.
This year, organizers promise that the event will be a challenge for all participants, who can choose to ride 25, 50, 62, or 100 miles. One of the changes this year is the added option to walk or run three miles, five miles or 10 miles. All routes will have rest stops that provide beverages and healthy snacks, and medical and mechanical assistance are available throughout the event.
FORT KENT - Paradis Shop 'n Save, in partnership with the United Way, will host its annual Paradis United Way Benefit Golf Scramble on Saturday, June 21 at the Fort Kent Golf Club. Registration takes place 7-8 a.m., and the tournament will begin with a shotgun start at 9 a.m.
FLORIDA and MAINE- Former St. John Valley math and science educator Bruce Freeman and wife Claudette of 46 years, recently spent nine months sailing along the eastern coast of the United States on their 41-foot sloop sailboat named Summer Wind. The Freemans set sail on the Atlantic Ocean from Maine and traversed their way as far south as the Florida Keys island of Marathon. Their expedition began on Sept. 15, 2013 and came to an end May 30 when they temporarily docked Summer Wind in Virginia, pending their next adventure.
