Medical issues to blame for St. David accident

ST. DAVID – Police in Madawaska are blaming medical issues for a Tuesday morning accident on Beaulieu Road in St. David that sent an 82-year-old man to the hospital.

According to Madawaska Police Chief Carroll Theriault, Fernand Morin was traveling south on Beaulieu Road in his 2000 Chrysler 4-door sedan at approximately 7:40 a.m. March 27 when he suddenly crossed the centerline and crashed into a snow bank in the ditch on the opposite side of the road.

Officer Matthew Derosier responded to the scene. Because emergency personnel were unaware of the extent of the damage at the time of the call, an ambulance and a rescue truck from the fire department also responded. The rescue truck was equipped with the Jaws of Life, but it was unnecessary to use them.

The accident totaled Morin’s vehicle, and he was unable to recall what had happened, said Theriault. Morin’s son transported him to Northern Maine Medical Center and medical personnel later transported him to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor.
