ST. JOHN VALLEY- In 2006, the volunteers and football enthusiasts formed Valley Mustangs, a first of its kind football team in the St. John Valley. They are part of the Aroostook Football league.

VAN BUREN- The town ofVan Buren will host their 14th annual Summer Fest on August 10, 11, and 12.

The talk around town was that the Van Buren Summer Fest had been cancelled, but it turns out that statement was untrue and now organizers are scrambling to put the word out there that the festivities are a go.

MADAWASKA - Do you play an instrument, dance, sing, or even perform magic tricks? Are you a solo act, or part of a duet, or even a trio? The Talbot- dit- Gervais family reunion wants you. The Talbot- dit-Gervais family reunion is recruiting acts for their Friday, August 10 talent show. The talent show will take place from 6:30 to 8 p.m. and requires audience members to pay a $5 admission fee. Rehearsal is on Thursday, August 9 from 6 to 8 p.m.

FRENCHVILLE - In 2005, the Wylie family donated their family home, the Wylie House, located on Route 1 in Frenchville in front of the water tower, to the Frenchville Historical Society. Since then, the society has been working to restore the home to its original glory and now the piece of history is officially open to the public.

MADAWASKA – Joining a recent national YouTube fad inspired by the popular and catchy Carly Rae Jepsen tune, the Madawaska boy’s baseball team decided to put together a music video to “Call Me Maybe.”

MADAWASKA- For the past three years, music has filled the months of July, August, and September on Thursday nights at the Bi-Centennial Park in Madawaska.

Creator of Music in the Park Jane Carter believes that the event “brings the community together, and brings people from Edmundston.” Carter also said that there are all ages, “old to young,” who attend the event.

MADAWASKA - The well-known book series “Chicken Soup for the Soul” has a new writer from the Valley. Angel Dionne, who is a Fiddlehead Focus freelancer, has contributed “Unconditional Love,” in the new book “Chicken Soup for the Soul: The Magic of Mothers and Daughters.”

In the upcoming weekends, high school students across the Valley will participate in traditional prom events, from before-prom gatherings, to the prom itself, and even after-prom parties.

While the birds are chirping and with the snow finally melted, the students at Madawaska High School are gearing up for the baseball/softball season.
