Make Shift Coffee House
February 15, 2018 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pmFree!
Make Shift Coffee House to be held in Orono at the University of Maine on February 15th.
The Make Shift Coffee House is a growing community based project created by Good Group Decisions Inc., executed by volunteers, and aimed to facilitate dialogue on hot button political issues.
Each event has a particular focus, on February 15th we will focus on what influences your vote. What role do your values play? Your religion? Your education? Your race? Your gender? Your world view? Your life experiences?
Encouraging people to explore our political differences as well as areas of common interests, participants will be asked questions that prompt critical thinking. What does “voting” mean to you? Do you vote only at the polls? Or do you consider yourself “voting” when you spend money, show up at events, or boycott products or events?
Craig Freshley of Brunswick facilitates these events with a neutral, encouraging tone using his experience as a professional meeting moderator. He is the founder of Make Shift Coffee House and the owner of Good Group Decisions Inc.
This upcoming Make Shift Coffee House will be in the Wells Commons at the University of Maine in Orono, on February 15th, from 6pm to 8pm.
The sole purpose of a Make Shift Coffee House is for people to hang out and understand the reason for each other’s political views. To help make this happen, the Make Shift Coffee House has live music, free food and coffee, and lots of friendly conversation.
Feedback from prior events:
“Make Shift Coffee House made me realize that political discussions are worth having, because most Americans really do want what’s best for everyone. My experience there also encouraged me to read – and talk to others – about beliefs that are different from my own, without feeling immediately threatened or repulsed by them.”
All are welcome.
Come join us as we resolve to understand each other in the New Year.
