MAINE– John O’Dea has left his position as Chief Executive Officer at Associated General Contractors of Maine, effective at the end of June. O’ Dea departed the trade association to open his own firm, Barracuda East, specializing in research, strategic intelligence, and risk management for corporations, developers and investors in infrastructure and energy projects. Barracuda East opened its doors on July 2.
“Associated General Contractors of Maine is a tremendous organization,” said O’Dea. “The members are doing everything they can to create good paying jobs for hard working people throughout Maine while building the civil infrastructure upon which we all depend. I enjoyed working with everyone at AGC, but I also think that now is a good time for me to move forward with a diverse group of clients in a variety of areas. My experience with AGC and my activity priority to that have helped us identify an opportunity to serve clients with public policy, regulatory and advocacy needs.”
O'Dea said that he was proud of his work at AGC, including projects that will continue to have an impact on the industry.
"One innovation during my time at AGC was our “major markets” initiative which focused the industry’s attention on projects representing tens to hundreds of millions in investment," said O'Dea. "Too many times in Maine, developers find themselves at the mercy of a handful of local opponents or referendum voters and the project goes away. We made sure the construction industry’s considerable voice was heard by state and local officials on the developer’s behalf.”
Barracuda East will focus on working with corporations, developers, and investors on the complicated subject matter of regulatory issues, risk management, and strategic planning. The firm is affiliated with Barracuda Marketing and Design, LLC, in Boulder, CO, specializing in strategic marketing and advocacy work for clients in commercial construction, development, energy, and utility markets. O’Dea’s brother, Rob runs Barracuda Marketing and Design, LLC.
“Between our two firms, we have a lot of experience and a vast portfolio of offerings for our clients,” said John O’Dea. “My brother has 15 years of experience in senior-level marketing, operations, and business and I have 20 years of experience working with public policy, regulatory environments, and strategic planning. I am excited about this venture and we are both excited about this partnership. We get stuff done.”
As Chief Executive Officer of AGC Maine, John O’ Dea directed the association’s regulatory and legislative issues for its members. O’Dea previously served as a member of the Maine State Senate and Maine House of Representatives. He is a Caribou native and a graduate of the University of Maine.
Barracuda East Incorporated is located at 168 Capitol Street in Augusta, Maine. For more information, visit www.barracudaeast.com.
