Madawaska awards scholarships and honors to graduating seniors

MADAWASKA - Madawaska High School staff and award sponsors presented the following awards and scholarships to graduating seniors during their commencement ceremony on Thursday, June 6.

Lauren Tingley – English, Mathematics and Science Awards; The Lucy B. Plourde Memorial Scholarship; WBRC Architects Engineering Scholarship; American Legion Riders, Post 147 scholarship; Herff Jones Believe in You Scholarship and Principal's Award; The University of Maine Pulp and Paper Foundation scholarship; and a UMaine Presidential Scholarship; Hannah Cote - Modern Language, Social Studies Awards; American Legion Auxiliary Award for school citizenship and devotedness to class/school activities by Mrs. Diane Daigle on behalf of the local unit; The Blue and White Award from the seniors to one of its own members who has done much for the class but has not received recognition;The Lewis and Annie Cote Memorial Scholarship; recognition as Advanced Placement Scholar; Senator George J. Mitchell Scholarship; and Husson University's President's Leadership Scholarship; Darin Jandreau - Business Award; Acadia Federal Credit Union Scholarship; Al Langley Memorial Scholarship; The University of Maine's Recognition Award; Lindsey Lavoie – American Legion Scholarship; University of Maine at Fort Kent's Bengal Silver Scholarship; Sarah Ringuette – The University of Maine at Presque Isle's John F. Hill Gold Award; Emily Collins - Husson Award as recognition for personal achievement as reflected in character, citizenship, attitude and industry; Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Allied Health Services College Merit and Dean's Achievement Award; Victoria Millette - Vocational Technology Director's Award; Nika Michaud – Progress Award; Samuel Thomas - English Improvement Award of $1,000 sponsored by Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph T. Pelletier; American Legion Award from Mr. Paul Brideau on behalf of the local post; The Dawn C. Houghton Memorial Scholarship; Jesse Pelletier – Husson University's Presidential Leadership Scholarship; Tonya Dubois - Art Award; Aaron Thibeault - Boys' Athletic Award, voted by entire coaching staff; The University of New England's Merit Scholarship; Kelley Dugal – Girls' Athletic Award, voted by entire coaching staff; University of Maine Blue and White Award; James Cyr – Band Award; The University of Maine at Farmington's Academic Excellence Scholarship; Jessica Morneault – Alyssa Cyr Scholarship; Rikki Demoranville – McDonald's Scholarship; Michael Gagnon – The Finance Authority of Maine College Goal Maine Scholarship; Lenny Pelletier – The University of New England's Dean Scholarship; Heather Boucher – Heather Dawn Bouchard Memorial Scholarship; Nathalie Cyr – The MELMAC Richard W. Seniors who closed out their high school years as members of the National Honor Society are: Amanda Blackwell, Emily Collins, Hannah Cote, James Cyr, Nathalie Cyr, Kelley Dugal, Darin Jandreau, Lindsey Lavoie, Jesse Pelletier, Lauren Tingley.

Alec Dionne has chosen to pursue his education through the United State Marines and Mrs. Prescilla Cannan, a member of The Madawaska Acadian Quilters, presented a handmade Maine themed pillowcase to Dionne that Father Jacques Lapointe blessed.

The top ten class positions were also announced as follows:

Tenth: Amanda Blackwell; Ninth: Nathalie Cyr; Eighth: Darin Jandreau; Seventh: Lindsey Lavoie; Sixth: Kelley Dugal; Fifth: Jesse Pelletier; Fourth: James Cyr.

The top three students are: Honor Essayist, Hannah Cote; Salutatorian, Emily Collins; and Valedictorian, Lauren Tingley.
