Frenchville Air Show on track for 2013
FRENCHVILLE -Its skyward bound for the 4th Annual Frenchville Fly-In and Air Show scheduled for August 17-18, 2013, said Air Show Director David Fernald Jr.
“We are excited to again be hosting our two-day Fly-In and Air Show at Northern Aroostook Regional Airport in Frenchville,” said Fernald Jr. “Last year’s show was a huge success, and we are looking forward to building on the momentum gained from that event.”
This year’s air show will feature return performances from two Vermont acts in stunning aerobatic demonstrations - Dan Marcotte, of Reno Air Races fame, in his red and gold Ultimate 10-200 Biplane flying high-speed maneuvers at 250 mph (www.danmarcotteairshows.com). And, the son and father duo of Jimmy Parker (Jr) and Jim Parker (Sr) in two dazzling acts – ‘Aerobatics 101’ in the fire engine red and white Pitts Special, S-2B Biplane, and their ‘Clair de Lune’ glider routine in the Salto H-101 Sailplane, soaring through the sky in a breath-taking and graceful display set to music. A new main event will be added to the schedule this year, said Fernald. The ‘Misty Blues’, the world’s only all-female skydiving demonstration team, will captivate audiences performing as they did at the 2012 Great State of Maine Air Show in Brunswick. Four of the Michigan-based eight-member team will attend, said Cindy Irish, Misty Blues Team Leader. “We can’t wait to perform for the Air Show and Frenchville” Irish said. (www.mistyblues.com)
All three major aerobatic teams will perform both days of the air show along with several local, state and federal government agencies and organizations performing fly-bys, and aerial and ground demonstrations, including many static displays, radio controlled aircraft, food, music, souvenirs for sale and airplane rides will be available. Fly-In aircraft are welcome all weekend.
“The 2012 Air Show drew approximately 3,500 residents from Northern Maine, the St. John Valley and neighboring Canadian townships in New Brunswick and Quebec,” said Fernald. “We’re expecting attendance to increase this year and would even like to see it double.”
Gates open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.. Ticket cost is $5 per person; children age five and under are free.
The 2013 Air Show is hosted by the Aroostook Aero Club (formally St. John Valley Aero Club) and the Northern Aroostook Regional Airport (NARA) and is only possible through the generous donations of many local business and personal sponsors and dedicated volunteer support.
