Police say children operating ATVs is dangerous
FORT KENT – On Feb. 10, the Fort Kent Police Department charged Keith Daigle of Autumn Road in Fort Kent with allowing a minor to operate an ATV on a public way, said Fort Kent Police Chief Kenneth Michaud.
Neighbors called with concerns about four children on the subdivision's streets, two of whom were seated on an ATV without helmets and two others who were seated on two separate toboggans that the ATV driver was towing behind the ATV.
The ATV driver was 12. A 10-year-old child was on the ATV as well, and an eight-year-old and a 13-year-old were in the sleds, said Michaud.
“It's dangerous,” said the police chief.
Michaud said Daigle made a comment to the investigating officer about how children “can't have fun around here anymore.”
