FORT KENT- The Betterment Fund has awarded the town of Fort Kent a grant of $15,000, said Director of Planning and Economic Development Steve Pelletier. The fund provides funding for Maine communities to help improve their residents’ quality of life, health, and capacity to sustain its natural resources.

AROOSTOOK COUNTY- Due to the impact of this year’s severe winter in Northern Maine, the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and wildlife has suspended the spring wild turkey hunt in portions of Northern Maine, specifically Wildlife Management Districts 1-6. The spring turkey season will remain unchanged in all other areas of the state.

FORT KENT- On April 9, the sixth annual Youth Voices Law Enforcement Basketball Game fundraiser had friends, relatives and interested bystanders in the audience hooting and hollering - or is that hooping and hollering? The yearly event pits high school students against members of government agencies, such as the Maine Forest Service or Customs and Border Patrol, in a fun-filled, mixed team basketball game.

WINSLOW– The Maine Warden Service held its annual Awards and Recognition Ceremony on Wednesday, April 2 at the Winslow VFW. In attendance were guest speaker Gov. Paul R. LePage as well as the Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner of the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, Chandler Woodcock and Andrea Erskine. The meeting was led by the Colonel of the Maine Warden Service, Joel Wilkinson.

FORT KENT - Lonesome Pine Trails hosted several slalom and giant slalom races on Saturday, March 22. The event began at 8 a.m. and concluded with awards given at 3 p.m. Race divisions were separated according to ages. AUGUSTA - The Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry’s Bureau of Parks and Lands has announced that it is seeking grant proposals to improve recreational boating access to the waters of the State of Maine for fiscal year 2015, which begins July 1, 2014 and ends June 30, 2015.

FORT KENT - On Friday March 21, the University of Maine at Fort Kent Athletic Department held its annual Athletic Awards Night at the UMFK Sports Center. Highlighting the evening was selection of the male and female athletes of the year. In addition, the UMFK Women's Soccer Team was presented the National Championship Rings during the ceremony.
