FORT KENT- The University of Maine at Fort Kent will host a Summer Fun Run 5K race on Saturday Aug. 2.

Race day registration will begin at 8 a.m. at the UMFK Sports Center—with the first 100 participants to register receiving race T-shirt. The race is open to all age groups, and the race starting at 9 a.m.

MAINE - Secretary of State Matt Dunlap—with assistance from Deputy Secretary of State Julie Flynn and his daughter Emily Dunlap—drew the order of bond questions for this November's ballot. In order, the referendum ballot will read:

Question 1: "Do you want to ban the use of bait, dogs or traps in bear hunting except to protect property, public safety, or for research?"

FORT KENT - A Connecticut man vacationing in the Valley received some shocking news when he brought what he thought was his Polaris Ranger Side By Side 900 ATV to Fort Kent Powersports for maintenance. Employees at the dealership ran a routine vehicle identification number (VIN) check on the machine on Thursday, July 17, only to discover that law enforcement had previously reported it stolen.

MAINE - The annual Maine Audubon Loon Count takes place at 7 am on Saturday, July 19, and will include more than 900 loon counters in the annual project that gathers valuable data for Maine Audubon about the status of loons in the state. FORT KENT - Simone Martin, age 13 of Fort Kent, has qualified to compete in the girls long-jump event at the North American Finals of the Hershey Youth Track and Field Program in Hershey, Pa. from July 31-August 3. Martin is one of only three Aroostook County youths to earn a spot in the competition, and one of only five in Maine—Jacob Devine of Presque Isle and Alexis Rodrigues of Caribou qualified to compete in the 11-12 boys 200 meter dash and 13-14 girls softball throw, respectively.

MAINE - According to the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, more than 10,888 hunters purchased a permit to hunt bear in Maine in 2013—the most bear hunters since 2009—but they harvested 2,845 bears.

AUGUSTA - On the morning of Thursday, July 10, First Lady Ann LePage in partnership with the Bureau of Veterans Services, Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, and Maine Veterans' Homes, drew 14 names and five alternate hunters for this year's Disabled Veterans' Controlled Moose Hunt. The drawing took place at the Maine Veteran's Home in Augusta.

AROOSTOOK COUNTY- The Northern Region of Maine Sports Legends has selected Clara Collins of Caribou High School and Nicholas LaJoie from Van Buren District Secondary School as their Scholar-Athletes for 2014 to receive a $1,000 scholarship at the Annual Banquet of the Alfond Girls and Boys Club on Oct. 12.

FORT KENT - The Town of Fort Kent Recreation and Parks Department has begun another successful year of providing summer recreational activities for youths—from within the town and those who travel from outlying areas—in a wide variety of programs designed to keep them sharp, active, and socializing during the school break. More than 150 children have enrolled so far this summer, according to Fort Kent Recreation and Parks Department Director Ann Beaulieu.

AUGUSTA - The Maine Agricultural Fair Season has begun with the Houlton Agricultural Fair on July 3-6, which is the season's first of 24 fairs that take place over the next few months. The season ends in October with Maine's largest agricultural fair, the Fryeburg Fair.

For four days, the Houlton Agricultural Fair will feature over 25 games for children, livestock shows, 4H shows, 4 horse shows, a demolition derby, truck pulls, mud runs and antique tractor pulls.

AUGUSTA - Ten days after the closing of the public comment period on the draft question that will appear on the November ballot regarding new restrictions on bear hunting, Secretary of State Matt Dunlap has released the final version of the question. The question will read:
