Community enjoys Fun Day in St. Francis despite testy weather

ST. FRANCIS, Maine — Rain showers were unable to dampen the spirits of those who attended the Friends of St. Francis sixth annual Family Fun Day on Saturday, July 6.

“The weather was not cooperative. We were unable to have some of our planned events because of it, but it did not stop the people who attended from enjoying themselves,” said Friends of St. Francis President Cindy Jandreau. “The kids had a tremendous time with the ATV safety course. They enjoyed the games, especially the potato sack races and the booth games, the playground, and watermelon eating contest. It was really nice to see so many children playing and enjoying themselves.”

The rain held off in the morning long enough for a parade to ride through town.

During intermittent downpours, attendees gathered inside the St. Francis Community Center to munch on grilled hamburgers, french fries, and a variety of baked goods.

The event also included a craft fair inside the community center with vendors selling everything from homemade mittens, soaps and wooden signs to dog leashes crafted from bungee cords.

The daylong event also included a ceremony to honor veterans at the St. Francis Historical Society, live music and fireworks.

Jandreau said Friends of St. Francis will host a seventh annual Family Fun Day next year.
