50 Years Ago — July 3, 1969

    900 Splash In Pool On Opening Day –Director Don Arnold reported some 900 persons used the swimming pool on opening day last Thursday. He didn’t say this was a record, but that’s a lot of swimmers. Arnold also said registering for swimming lessons has ended and over 250 students are in the program.

Madawaska Enrolls Students In Headstart — The 1969 Summer Head Start Program opened in Madawaska on Monday, June 23, with 60 children in attendance. It will continue for the next six weeks. Daily activities include oral language development, rhythmic activities, personal health habits, indoor play, story telling, arts and crafts and music appreciation.

 25 Years Ago — July 6, 1994 

Reunion Smiles — Rella Labbe of Ashland and Fernande Palmer of Rocky Hills, Conn., were recently reunited at the University of Maine at Fort Kent. The two were celebrating their 50th reunion from the Madawaska Training School — what is currently UMFK — during the campus’ annual alumni day activities. The class of 1944 enjoyed an afternoon tea hosted by UMFK President Dr. Richard Dumont and Nancy Dumont, along with a campus tour and a banquet.

Newly Crowned Miss Mini Maine — Heather Martin has recently been crowned the new Miss Mini Maine. Martin was the 1993 Little Miss Potato Blossom Queen as well as the former Little Miss Madawaska.

10 Years Ago — July 1, 2009

Exploring Quebec — Sixth-graders from Madawaska Middle School visited Quebec City Friday, June 12. Each year sixth-graders from Madawaska make this memorable trip. While in Quebec they walked in the old part of the city past the Chateau Frontenac and watched a film on the history of the city. They then visited a mall where they ate lunch, watched an IMAX movie and visited the Mega Park before returning home.
