Blizzard ready for 25th annual MHL entry draft in Edmundston

EDMUNDSTON, New Brunswick — The table is set for the 25th annual MHL entry draft to take place on Saturday, June 15, at the Jean-Daigle Centre in Edmundston.

Nearly 100 delegates from the league’s 12 teams will gather on Thursday, June 13 in Edmundston to hold the league’s annual general meeting.

The public is invited to attend the Saturday draft session starting at 9:30 am. The activity will end early in the afternoon. Admission is free and the restaurant at the Jean-Daigle Centre will be open for the occasion.

“The draft is a great and very exciting happening, ” said Blizzard President André Lebel. Each team takes turns choosing the players who will form the future of their organization. We remember, during our first draft in Miramichi in 2017, that Liam Leonard, Vincent Rioux, Chase Carter and Olivier-Luc Haché were selected by the Blizzard. Further back, when the team was known as the Dieppe Commandos, Logan Johnston, Alex Lavoie, Tristan Mercure and others were among the players drafted.

Similar to the QMJHL and NHL entry drafts, the MHL event sometimes gets spectacular with trades between the teams.

“We are very happy to offer such an activity to our fans and to show all teams again our great sense of hospitality. This annual general meeting and draft will generate significant economic benefits for the City of Edmundston and provide delegates with additional opportunities to experience the charms of the region during these three days,” said Lebel.
