Police arrest Edmundston woman with contraband tobacco

EDMUNDSTON, New Brunswick — Members of the Edmundston Police Force on Wednesday, March 13, arrested a 62-year-old woman who was in possession of more than 35,000 contraband cigarettes in her vehicle.

According to Insp. Steve Robinson of the police force, at the end of the investigation, officers released the woman on a promise to appear. Her court date has been set for July 2, 2019. She will face charges related to this seizure of illegal tobacco valued at close to $5,000 on the black market.

Since she has not been formally charged in court yet, her name cannot be disclosed, Robinson stated via a press release.
