St. John Valley parishes plan Lenten retreats

ST. JOHN VALLEY, Maine — Local parishes are joining others around Maine to offer retreats and missions to help parishioners and community members deepen their Lenten experience.

Lent began on Ash Wednesday, March 6, and ends on Holy Thursday, April 18.

St. John Vianney Parish in Fort Kent will present the bestselling DVD series “The Mass” by Bishop Robert Barron from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday evenings during Lent in the basement of St. Louis Church, 26 East Main Street, Fort Kent.

The sessions begin on March 12 and are hosted by the Family Life Commission. Subsequent dates are March 19 and 26, and April 2, 9 and 16.

On Friday and Saturday, March 15-16, the Christian Life Center in Frenchville will host an overnight retreat for women entitled “Women’s Redemptive Suffering.” The retreat will begin at 6 p.m. on Friday and end with the 4 p.m. Mass in St. Agatha.

The event includes prayer, reflections, presentations, faith sharing and food as well as lodging for Friday night. The cost for the retreat is $50. To register, call (207) 728-7531.
