Pattison Signs receives visit from UMCE administration students

EDMUNDSTON, New Brunswick — Second-year students in the Management Accounting Course (ADCO2310) at the Université de Moncton, Edmundston Campus (UMCE), took a guided tour of Edmundston’s Signs Pattison Sign Group, on September 30 last November.

The company employs 320 employees at its Edmundston site, which specializes in the manufacturing of signs for major Canadian and US companies.

Founded 115 years ago, Pattison Sign Group is one of the world’s largest sign and visual communication companies, and the industry leader in North America. The company is an exclusive division of Jim Pattison Industries LTD., A private company with 45,000 employees and over $ 10 billion in revenue.

Participants were treated to a presentation from this manufacturing giant by Daniel Laplante, Director of Operations for Canada at Signes Pattison Sign Group. The site visit was made in the company of Patrick Cormier, director of value-added engineering and R & D.

The visit of the administrative offices and the factory in Edmundston made it possible to see the production of a sign, from design to final manufacture. Students have found that many of the concepts learned in their management accounting course, including the calculation of manufacturing cost, actually apply in manufacturing firms.

Signs Pattison Sign Group specializes in the manufacturing of big food companies, finance, automotive and retail, as well as office towers.
